Silvester: prečo sa vlastne lúčime s rokom práve dnes a čo všetko k tomu patrí

Silvester je posledným dňom v roku a zároveň jediným dňom, keď je úplne normálne dať si sekt už o šiestej večer, zjesť chlebíčky na kilá a presviedčať sa, že „od zajtra už fakt inak“. Oslavy Silvestra však nevznikli len tak – majú svoju históriu, tradície a v rôznych častiach sveta aj poriadne odlišnú podobu.

Prečo sa volá Silvester

Názov Silvester nemá nič spoločné s mačkou z rozprávky. Pomenovanie pochádza od pápeža Silvestra I., ktorý zomrel 31. decembra roku 335. Tento dátum sa postupne ustálil ako symbolický koniec roka a meno Silvester sa s ním spojilo natrvalo.

Samotné oslavy Nového roka sú však omnoho staršie. Už staroveké civilizácie si koniec roka pripomínali hostinami, rituálmi a oslavami – len bez konfiet, pyrotechniky a SMS správ typu „Šťastný nový rok, nech sa darí“.

Ako sa Silvester oslavuje vo svete

Každá krajina má svoje vlastné silvestrovské „rituály“:

  • Španielsko – presne o polnoci ľudia zjedia 12 hroznových bobúľ, jednu za každý úder hodín. Vraj to prinesie šťastie na celý rok. Kto nestíha, má vraj šťastie aspoň na Silvestra.
  • Taliansko – na stole nesmie chýbať šošovica, symbol bohatstva. Čím viac šošovice, tým lepší rok.
  • Japonsko – chrámy zvonia presne 108-krát, aby sa ľudia zbavili negatívnych vlastností a začali nový rok „očistení“.
  • USA – ikonický pád gule na Times Square v New Yorku sledujú milióny ľudí po celom svete.
  • Brazília – ľudia sa obliekajú do bieleho a skáču cez vlny oceánu pre šťastie a zdravie.

Silvester po slovensky

Na Slovensku sa Silvester nesie v znamení:

  • chlebíčkov,
  • jednohubiek,
  • šalátov, ktoré sa jedia ešte tri dni po Novom roku,
  • prípitkov „na zdravie“,
  • predsavzatí, ktoré vydržia približne do Troch kráľov.

Tradične sa verilo, že na Nový rok sa nemá zametať, vynášať smeti ani požičiavať peniaze, aby z domu „neodišlo šťastie“. Zato šošovica, kapusta a bravčové mäso mali zabezpečiť hojnosť a blahobyt.

A ako je to dnes

Dnes má Silvester mnoho podôb. Niekto ho trávi na námestí, iný doma na gauči, ďalší v práci alebo na chate mimo civilizácie. Pre niektorých je to veľká párty, pre iných pokojný večer s rodinou, filmom a pohárom vína.

Spoločné však máme jedno – symbolickú bodku za starým rokom. Či už bol dobrý, náročný alebo „radšej naň zabudnúť“, Silvester nám dáva pocit nového začiatku. Aspoň na chvíľu.

A tak si dnes večer pripime – s mierou, s rozumom a možno aj s úsmevom. Lebo nech je nový rok akýkoľvek, Silvester je jediný deň, keď je úplne v poriadku povedať: „Od zajtra to už bude lepšie.“
